Through its Crisis Services, Genesee County Community Mental Health makes trained professionals available to assist individuals and families with understanding their treatment options, and with crisis intervention during a mental health emergency. These services are easily accessed by calling the above numbers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If needed, a staff person can arrange a face-to-face screening for services, or face-to-face crisis intervention. Staff can also help by making referrals to community agencies and resources, and by arranging emergency services such as hospitalization.
Access Services operate Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to assist the caller in getting help, whether it is an emergency or not. A trained Access staff person will conduct a “screening” in response to a request for services. This interview allows the caller to tell staff about the problems that are occurring. Staff will ask questions in order to help and to determine what services may be appropriate. Persons seeking services should have the following information available:
- Medical insurance card or numbers
- Social security number
- Names of current medicines
- Guardianship or court papers
- Special education or other school records
Fees for services are based on a person's ability to pay; therefore, staff will need to know household income and the number of dependents of the person seeking help. A coverage determination will be made at the time of the screening.
